Safeguarding Policy

DBS Checks
Every tutor on TutorBase must hold an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before they can accept bookings. We verify DBS certificates as part of our onboarding process and require annual renewal. Tutors who do not provide a valid, up-to-date DBS certificate will have their profiles suspended until one is supplied.
Reporting Concerns
If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child or young person using TutorBase, or about the conduct of a tutor, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately:
Email: safeguarding@tutorbase.co.uk
We will acknowledge all reports within 24 hours and take appropriate action, which may include suspending the tutor's account, contacting parents or guardians, and referring the matter to local safeguarding authorities or the police where necessary.
Under-18 Policy
TutorBase is designed primarily for school-age learners. We take additional precautions to protect younger users:
- Under-13s:Parental or guardian consent is required before an account can be created. A parent or guardian must be the account holder and manage all bookings on the child's behalf.
- 13 to 17: Students may hold their own account but a parent or guardian must provide consent during sign-up and will receive booking confirmations.
- Online sessions should take place in a shared or open area of the home where a parent can be within earshot.
- Tutors are instructed never to communicate with students outside the TutorBase platform.
Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
Our safeguarding procedures are informed by the Department for Education's statutory guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). While TutorBase is not a school, we adopt the same principles to ensure a safe learning environment:
- All staff and tutors receive safeguarding awareness training.
- We maintain a culture of vigilance — everyone is responsible for identifying and reporting concerns.
- We follow the “it could happen here” approach: concerns are never dismissed.
- Records of safeguarding concerns are stored securely and shared only with relevant authorities.
