Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
1. About TutorBase
TutorBase is an online marketplace that connects students and parents with independent tutors. By creating an account or using our services, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
2. Platform Fees
TutorBase charges a platform fee of 15%on top of the tutor's advertised rate. This fee covers:
- Secure payment processing via Stripe
- Tutor matching and discovery
- Booking management and scheduling
- Customer support
For example, if a tutor sets their rate at £30/session, the student pays £34.50 (£30 + 15% platform fee). The tutor receives the full £30.
3. Cancellation and Refund Policy
- Within 24 hours of booking: Full refund, no questions asked. The booking is cancelled and both parties are notified.
- After 24 hours / sessions in progress: A pro-rata refund is issued for any unused sessions in a block booking. Individual sessions that have already taken place are non-refundable.
- Tutor cancellation: If a tutor cancels a session, the student receives a full refund for that session automatically.
- No-shows:If a tutor fails to attend a confirmed session, a full refund is issued. If a student fails to attend without 24 hours' notice, the session is charged as normal.
4. Tutor Independence
Tutors on TutorBase are independent contractors, not employees of TutorBase. This means:
- Tutors set their own rates, availability, and teaching methods.
- Tutors are responsible for their own tax obligations (self-assessment, National Insurance).
- TutorBase does not direct, supervise, or control how tutoring sessions are conducted.
- Tutors must hold appropriate qualifications and DBS checks as required by our Safeguarding Policy.
5. Liability Limitations
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- TutorBase acts as an intermediary marketplace. We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or outcome of any tutoring session.
- Our total liability to you in any 12-month period shall not exceed the fees you have paid to TutorBase in that period.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform.
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
6. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
